One-off bills may be generated as needed from the Matter page. Users should navigate to the matter in question, select Matter Actions > Generate Bill. The resultant dialogue gives similar settings for generating a bill with time/expense entries on it.
If the client wants to generate a statement for the Matter, they can select Generate Statement instead. The resultant dialogue gives three unique options for statement type:
- Transaction History: Generates a full matter ledger statement showing all transactions that apply to that matter.
- Open Items with Payments: Generates a statement showing only open bills with balances and any payments that apply directly to those bills, nothing else.
- Statement of Account: Generates a statement that provides the previous balance and any transactions since the last posted bill.

If the client wants to generate a detailed history bill for the Matter, they can select Run History Bill. This allows you to generate a detailed bill of all the time and expense for a given matter. There are various filters available:
- History Bill Date Range: This is the date range to use when pulling billing entries to show on the history bill. It defaults to all dates, but if you want to only show last month or this quarter, you can do that.
- Billing Entry Setting: You can either show billed, unbilled, or all billing entries for a given matter.
- Bill Format: This mostly affects the columns and grouping of the billing entries on the report.
- Summaries to Show: Let’s you choose which of 3 summaries to show. Timekeeper summary is for time entries and groups by timekeeper and billable rate. Expense Summary is for expense entries and groups by billing code. Phase Summary shows both time and expense, grouped by billing code and billable price. This last is usually used with LEDES Activity codes to show what was billed at different stages of the case.
- Invoice View: If the firm has more than one invoice template, they can choose which one to use here.
