IMPORTANT NOTE: Depending on what has already happened for the matter, this may cause errors in the data. Please do with extreme caution and only in absolutely necessary cases.
Occasionally, the need to change a client on a matter will arise. In the event that this occurs, a few items will need to be checked before the change is made.
What Changing the Client on the Matter Affects
Depending on the settings for the Client tab, the old client may still show up in the Related Items tab.
Payments/Payment Distributions and Credits/Credits Distributions
Existing payments that are on bills, and/or that have been deposited, won't be able to be edited as it's not possible to change the Client on them. Additionally, items will flag in the System Health, as some payments will have a different client than the new Matter Client.
If a pre-bill hasn't been posted at the time of the client change, it won't be possible to post it due to the bill having a different client than the matter.
Existing refunds won't be able to be edited as it's not possible to change the Client on them.
If none of these items have been created, then changing the client on the matter won't cause any issues.
