What are Location Codes?
Location Codes are a new type of Billing Code meant to keep track of the location where the billing entry took place. This could be geolocation like city, state, zip code or simply a branch office name. Location codes were created as a new object type to allow firms to customize them to their firm’s needs.
How do they work?
To turn them on, simply go to billing settings at the system, client, or matter level and click on the check box to turn them on just like billing codes. Labels used can be changed as well as what class of location codes to limit to and what the default code is. Once turned on, anywhere that billing entries can be edited or created will allow users to enter or edit the location code too.
How can an existing user get started?
Classes of location codes can be defined in the admin tool. This is the same as adding classes normally: Admin Tool > Admin tab > Item Manager > [Double Click] Location Codes > Class Hierarchy tab > Add Sibling button.
From there, additional fields can be added or edited. The default fields are for Address and branch/Office. Others can be added if needed.
Next, it is recommended to add location codes under the billing section of the navbar. Otherwise, location codes can still be found in the “others” section of the navbar.
Finally, create the location codes. This can be done from the plus button. Enter the info into the form and save.
